The 1920s modernized fashion. Corsets were out and the short skirts and trousers were in. Dresses were lighter and brighter and rose just above the knee. The waistline in the dresses fell very low around the hip. Stockings assumed a huge role now that they were visible. Women also cut their hair very short during this time and “the bob” was a very popular hairstyle. Silk and wool were also introduced into women’s fashion.
This was also the time of the flappers. Flappers were young women who wore short dresses with a straight loose silhouette. They wore stockings made of nylon, or artificial silk.
The 1920s fashion reflected post WWI. America was a superpower. Women were coming out of their shells. Their dresses became shorter so it would be easier for them to dance. Fashion was taking a turn down modern road.
